Enhance your galleries with on the fly special effects with Justified Image Grid. They can be set to activate/deactivate on mouse over or turned on or off for all images regardless of the mouse. These are quickly generated by the browser and don’t incur additional bandwidth usage. They are cross-browser compatible and are available for all images except when using Jetpack Photon to serve images. The effects are achieved by a JS plugin, Pixastic. Roll over the following examples with your cursor:

Desaturate

Blur

Hover with the mouse to see the effect. Blurred by default is not good for the eyes. I added a magnifying glass at 0.5 opacity to make more sense to this effect.

Orton effect (blended blur)

This mimics Orton photography. The images end up looking dreamy. Make sure not to overuse this! This looks especially good for photos of people as it beautifies the skin. Also looks great with hair or fur!

Glow

The glow effect is best with dark photos with a light source, as it’ll brighten up. e.g. city lights, sunsets…

What are the options for special effects?

  • Choose the effect to use or none
  • Ability to work differently on mobile devices
  • Option to react to mouse over
  • A blending (opacity) setting that control how visible is the effect over the original image
  • Advances setting that is specific to each effect, e.g. glow amount

Note: When Jetpack Photon is enabled the special effects are turned off because the images will be served from another domain. This is a security policy. In all other cases the special effects will display as thumbnails are hosted on your domain even for Facebook and Flickr.

How do the settings look like?

Because the screenshots are large, they open in a new tab so you can zoom them with the browser and can read the text.
