Whitmore bay is the largest of 3 sandy, tidal beaches that surround the leisure location of Barry Island on the south Wales coast.
Barry Island is technically now a peninsula. It was connected to the mainland through the construction of the extensive Barry docks in the 1880's.

As a last thought in 2025 from our hearts.
This is to remember our beautiful White Shepherd lady - "Cali" - who passed away in our arms in June, with a River of tears.....
this year, unexpectedly
After problems diagnosed.
She was a beautiful loving lady, like her sister
Mili who we sadly lost in 2022.
Life without them is empty but their memories live on.
Cali is at the top of the photo and Mili the bottom
Enjoying being on Black Rock Sands playing together.
We miss both of you very very much.
Also how lovely with Hef's cat " Rosie" and gentle you both were with her.....
Who also sadly passed away after Cali.
I rescued Cali from South Wales, from a bad home, after a 9 hr return journey, she came home, to Mili and they were totally matched, and played together until Mili passed in 2022.

27th edition of the First Swim of the Year, a solidarity event organised by the Atlètic-Barceloneta Swimming Club (CNAB).The First Swim of the Year is not only a fun challenge for those daring enough to brave the cold January waters, but also a special way to start the year on the right foot, surrounded by community and contributing to a solidarity project that makes a tangible difference in Barcelona.More than 1200 people took part in the event, has raised around 15,000 euros to be donated to charitable causes.Thank you!

A November morning on Kojessee Inlet
As the November sun barely skims the horizon in the high Arctic, Koojesse Inlet transforms into a crystalline landscape of fire and ice. Captured by photographer Jonathan Potts, this scene documents the transition into the deep northern winter, where the sprawling, boulder-strewn tidal flats of Iqaluit are flash-frozen by the plummeting temperatures of late autumn.The macrotidal basin, famous for its dramatic 11-meter tides, lies silent and locked in a mosaic of sea ice and frost-shattered rock. A searing orange glow cuts through the heavy indigo of the dawn sky, illuminating the jagged textures of the shoreline and the distant silhouettes of the Baffin Island hills. Copyright - All Rights Reserved - Black Diamond ImagesPeople on the rainbow were removed using Google Gemini Ai.I have never seen so many people on the grassed area here at Coogee Beach, mostly young people under 35, presumably backpackers, many from Ireland, among a plethora of other countries. In what looked like a co-ordinated plan, hundreds of girls were dressed in red bikinis and santa hats while many males donned santa suits creating a unique Australian beach scene.
From what I was able to observe the youthful crowd were extremely well behaved, well except for the tons of rubbish they left behind for Randwick Council to clean up.Other Eastern Suburbs beaches like Brontë were off limits for Xmas Day in 2025 due to renovations around the park area behind the beach. Presumably many people felt uncomfortable returning to Bondi following the tragic terrorist event that occurred there on December 14th 2025.
Despite the crowds on the grassed area the beach was less well populated as the surf was choppy and the day a little cloudy and cooler that we normally might expect on Xmas Day in Australia.It must be said that Randwick Shire Council’s clean-up staff did an amazing job with the beach and grassed areas absolutely spotless by sun up on Boxing Day.

White Rock
The boulder is a glacial erratic, deposited on the shores of Semiahmoo Bay thousands of years ago by a retreating glacier during the last ice age. To the Semiahmoo First Nation, the rock is known as P'Quals. According to a Coast Salish legend, the rock was hurled across the water from Vancouver Island by the son of a sea-being to mark the spot where he and his new wife (the daughter of a Cowichan chief) would make their home.
